Located along an extensive sandy tongue at the northwestern tip of Coche Island - which together with the islands of Margarita and Cubagua make up the Nueva Esparta State. Coche Beach or Playa La Punta is by far the most famous and popular beach of this kind in the Americas - arid and beautiful. Its waters are clear and without waves of intense blue with splendid turquoise tones.
Its sands white and very soft to the touch, are constantly swept by the trade winds of the northeast which blow all year round the island considerably reducing the sensation of heat. It is a world famous place for kitesurfing and windsurfing + Fun Such conditions have made Coche - and in particular Playa La Punta - a world-famous place for lovers of water sports, especially those who practice windsurfing and kitesurfing, and those who simply seek a quiet place to rest. at your ease and take a bit of sun. Playa La Punta is quite extensive and sandy, and lacks shadows, except those provided by the numerous awnings arranged in long and orderly rows along much of the beach and in front of the hotels.
In Playa la Punta Beach you can join tours to explore the Island visiting San Pedro de Coche (capital of the Villalba Municipality of Nueva Esparta State), El Bichar, Punta Conejo (a small stretch of mangrove forest where you will see hundreds of birds flying at sunset) and Playa El Amor. You will also know the shrimp farms and the gigantic shell cemetery, where some artisans will show you and sell an infinite number of products made with them. There are kitesurf and windsurf schools. You can rent jet skis, four-wheel motorcycles, kayaks and bicycles. But above all in Playa La Punta and throughout the island of Coche you will find a very kind type of people.
How to get to Punta Playa Beach? To go to Playa La Punta you must travel first to the island of Margarita. Once in Margarita, either from El Yaque beach or from La Isleta dock, boats or peñeros depart to take you directly to Playa La Punta. The tour takes about 20 or 30 minutes. In general, the hotels as well as many of the Posadas de Coche, include the transfer in their own boats to and from the island of Margarita. If you want to go in your own vehicle you should contact the company Conferry, who offer daily departures to San Pedro de Coche from the Punta de Piedras terminal.
